Affordable Accommodation in Vancouver

Vancouver is an expensive city to live in, even for a couple of nights, but there are several affordable options. Below, we have listed a few alternatives to ease your search for a place to stay.

Hostels

Hostel International Jericho Beach

The Jericho Hostel is one of the city’s nicest hostels, 20 minutes from downtown and 10 minutes from UBC. It is located right on the beach in former barracks, surrounded by nature and close to Vancouver’s Kitsilano neighbourhood. The 84 bus stops right up the hill and takes you straight to campus.

Hostel International Downtown

The HI Downtown is located in the West End, a short walk away from Davie street and Vancouver’s city centre. It’s a quiet and scenic neighbourhood, close to English Bay and the Seawall. To get to UBC, catch the #44 bus, and it’ll take you straight out.

The Cambie Hostel

The Cambie hostel is in Vancouver’s Gastown neighbourhood, an area of town with cobbled streets and boutiquey stores and restaurants. It is close to the fun and lively East side of town, but farther from the University. To get to UBC, you can either take the Canada line to Broadway and the 99 out to campus, or take the slow #4 bus.

The Kingston Hotel

The Kingston is a well-run, clean and safe hotel situated on the eastern edge of Downtown. Some rooms have private bathrooms, others are shared, and there is a free breakfast to start the day. To get to UBC from this location, catch the #4 or #14 directly there.

The Waldorf Hotel

The Waldorf is a historic hotel and tiki bar, where art, music and scrumptious food happen. It is faaaar away from the UBC campus, but close to Commercial Drive and Strathcona (where the East Side Culture Crawl will take place the same weekend as the conference).
