Final Project 2018: Introduction

A final project forms a significant component of this course. To complete the project will require you to independently use ArcMap to conduct an image classification using the skills and knowledge you have gained throughout the course.

A complete project description can be found here. The marking scheme that will be used in marking your project can be found here.

You will need to download the Landsat 8 images using GloVis, perform basic image manipulations (e.g., creating composite images, subsetting the images) as well as classifying the images (i.e., both unsupervised and supervised classifications), and preparing a final report documenting your work.

A reminder: When performing either an unsupervised or a supervised classification you should use bands 1-7 not the panchromatic band, the Cirrus band, or the TIRS bands.

A very helpful blog from ESRI on image classification that provides very useful guidelines for performing a supervised classification. I strongly recommend that you read over this blog before doing the supervised classification in your project as the tips will definitely help you in your classification.

Due date: Friday, April 13th, my office, by 3:00 (Room 209).

Marks: 30% of your final mark; late penalty, 1% per day, weekend counts as 1 day.
